Anybody know about this?
Having sworn I would not get sidetracked by LaTeX again I naturally was unable to resist trying to install it on my new laptop. Went to MacTex on the tug.org site, and my Norton Security flagged up a warning saying this was a known fraudulent site. Can that possibly be true? Tug.org?

That's what Word users would like us all to believe. No, the TeX Users Group is quite legit, Norton has come up with a false positive.
I've recently downloaded and installed MacTeX with no ill effects. In any case, you can also download it from here:
http://mirror.ctan.org/systems/mac/mactex/MacTeX.mpkg.zip
